MU950 PhD IN MUSIC (BY RESEARCH)
This programme allows candidates to pursue an in-depth study of a specialized field of music. Candidates enrolled in this programme have the opportunity to develop their own programme of study based on their musical ability, personal and career goals premised upon the advice and approval of the graduate committee and under the guide of a principal supervisor with expertise in the relevant field of study as appointed by the university. The duration of full-time candidature is 3 years whilst part-time candidates have up to 6 years to complete their studies. Areas of supervision in the field of music include psychology, teaching and learning processes, motivation, curriculum design and evaluation, instrument pedagogy, examinations and assessment, musicology, composition and performance. Candidates may be required to pass relevant proficiency tests as determined by the Faculty of Music before undertaking the research. All postgraduate research candidates are required to attend courses in Research Methodology & Presentation Skills, Thesis Writing & Data Analysis organized by the Institute of Graduate Studies. Upon fulfilling these requirements, candidates will defend their proposal at the faculty level and at IPSIS, take internal exams before submitting a written thesis for examination.
Master of Music or any other suitable and equivalent qualifications as approved by the UiTM Senate; AND pass the interview and audition (if required) conducted by the Faculty of Music.
MU990 is a research based degree and does not have course listings.
Graduates are eligible to apply to teach at universities and other educational institutes. Graduates may also apply for any music-related jobs.
This is a terminal degree in this field and no further studies are required upon completion of the degree. However, graduates from this degree may choose to further specialize by applying for post doctoral work in universities and colleges.
