COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2021

INTRODUCTION

In November 2021, the UiTM Faculty of Music in collaboration with The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) will be holding its annual “UiTM-KLPAC Malaysian Composers Concert Series,” a week of concerts dedicated to Malaysia’s local and international composers to display their works. 

Throughout the week, there will be a piano trio composition competition concert namely ‘UiTM Tunku Zain Piano Trio Composition Competition’. Selected works of participants will be performed by the Piano Trio in Residence. 

For the preliminary stage, the selected compositions will be performed at a piano trio composition workshop. Finalists will have their compositions performed in a special concert in conjunction with the Composers Concert Series. Composers with selected work are required to attend the virtual workshop as the attendance is COMPULSORY. All participants will be informed on any possible changes that might be implied according to the latest Covid-19 restrictions update.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • The composition should be for a standard Piano Trio (Piano, Violin and Cello).
  • Previously commercialized published composition is not eligible for submission. 
  • Composition must not exceed 8 minutes in duration.  
  • Score must be neat, legible, and adhere to accepted standards.
  • The competition is only open to students of Universities, Colleges and Institutes of Higher Education. 
  • There is no age limit or nationality restrictions for composers.
  • No usage of additional interactive instruments (instruments which are not on the list, live electronics, etc.) is allowed. However completed works may include non-interactive electroacoustic elements (e.g., CD playback).
  • The jury’s decisions are final and cannot be legally challenged. Furthermore, the jury reserves the right to award no prize. 
  • A composition may be in any style.
  • Competition financial obligations are the responsibility of the entrant.

REGISTRATION FEE

Registration fees are as below:

  • Local - MYR30 
  • International - MYR60

 Payment can be made via UiTM Pay.

APPLICATION

Applicants should send their submissions no later than September 17th, 2021 through the dedicated google form (link as below)
SUBMIT YOUR WORK HERE

The following documents must be attached:

  • A copy of your student identification card
  • A synopsis of the composition
  • Applicants short biography (150 - 200 words)
  • A recent high resolution picture (Minimum 300dpi)
  • Receipt of the registration fee
  • A full score of the composition with individual parts in PDF, prepared in a standard musical software (Finale, Sibelius, etc)
  • Please be aware that the composition scores should NOT have the composer’s name at any point and should be replaced by a PSEUDONYM instead.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE

  • After a preliminary selection, around ten (the final number will be determined by the jury) compositions will be selected to be played and discussed at a Piano Trio Composition Workshop.
  • Final (the final number will be determined by the judges) selected works will be announced by 17 October 2021.

        Time : 4:00pm - 6:00pm

  • Composition Competition Final Concert

    Date : 22 Nov 2021

    Time : 8:15pm

    Venue : Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac)

    (Winners will be chosen after the concert performance)

  • First: Prize money, certificate and future performance invitation
  • Second: Prize money, certificate and future performance invitation
  • Third: Prize money, certificate and future performance invitation

*Juries for the finalist selection and winners selection will be announced after the preliminary stage.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS

Application for the competition implies the applicants’ unconditional compliance with all the rules and regulations established by this announcement. 

The organization reserves the right to cancel the competition if causes beyond their control should arise.
